Finding brand name furniture at low costs is tough, but Carolina Factory Outlet helps make doing so possible. The Florida-based business has been open for just over a decade and is run by partners Joseph Eden, CEO, and President and Founder Greg Majercin. Mr. Eden sat down with us to talk about some of their experiences running the business.
Mr. Eden, could you give us a little more background about what your company does?
Carolina Factory Outlet is a full line furniture and mattress “off price” retailer. Our niche is carrying only name brands for much less than the competition. Our full selection is shown in our showroom and backed up in our warehouse. Most times our customers either take their new merchandise with them or have it delivered the same week.
Sounds like something every homeowner could appreciate! How were you able to find your niche in the marketplace?
I think our niche found us. During good times there were a lot of furniture stores in our area and we watched many of them fall one at a time. It was at the beginning of the bad economy that Greg and I realized that we needed to make some changes if we were going to survive. We knew the Carolina Factory Outlet needed to do it faster, better and more efficient than the competition. So, what is our niche? Our niche is carrying the latest styles in stock for immediate delivery for less than the competition while maintaining nearly 100% customer satisfaction.
So what did you do, then, to become faster, better,and more efficient than the competition?
It was decided that we would stock the furniture shown in the showrooms at a local warehouse, which allowed us to do it faster. We visited warehouse facilities for many of our manufacturers, and even visited a Top 10 Furniture Chains warehouse facility to re-establish our best practices to do it better. And, we actively recruited one of the best warehouse managers in the industry, which allowed us to do it more efficiently than the competition.
