The Paint You Choose for Your Home Could Say a Lot About You

1. Flat or Matte

This is your most basic finishes. It does not reflect back much light because it has no shine to it. It is also one of the easiest to apply, because the color tends to be very uniform and spreads evenly. Brush or roller marks disappear upon drying, making it the easiest to use for amateur painters. The one downfall is that it does not stand up well to cleaning. For that reason, it is often used in places like guest bedrooms or studies, or other seldom used rooms.

2. Eggshell

This is sometimes known as “matte plus”. It is still relatively flat, but can have a slight sheen to it, and is more durable than plain matte finish. It is known to hold up better to spot cleans and general wear and tear, yet is still forgiving to the painter during application. Eggshell is commonly used in locations such as the living or dining room. It works best in rooms with some use and traffic, but nothing that requires vigorous cleaning, such a child’s bedroom or a kitchen.

3. Satin

The satin finish works better with walls, and furniture, that need more upkeep. The finish itself is shinier and reflects light well, which means it is good for a room that needs extra lighting. And it is more durable, being able to withstand bumps and scuffs, and can stand up even better to spot cleanings.

4. Glossy

As the name implies, this is much shinier with a very smooth finish. It withstands a lot of damage, and continues to look like new. This makes it ideal for baseboards, doors, and walls in places like kitchens and bathrooms. It also tends to stand up to humidity and temperature changes very well.
