In fact, recent surveys conducted by Houzz found that an estimated 38% of homeowners actually prefer carpet in their master bedroom. Other areas of the home, according to the survey, were covered by other types of flooring. An estimated 34% of floors were covered in hardwood, while 23% of floors were covered in tile. The most popular type of flooring among participants in the Houzz survey, clocking in at 47% of those surveyed, was some sort of wood flooring. In kitchens, that number is much higher, with 90% of participants preferring either hardwood or tile flooring.
Even among home buyers, hardwood flooring is much more popular than anything else. In fact, it’s so popular that the National Association of REALTORS estimates that about 54% of potential home buyers will pay more for a home that has hardwood flooring. Hardwood flooring is popular because it’s aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean, even though studies have been done proving that carpet is the better choice for reducing allergens in a home. Actually, countries like Sweden found that when carpet in homes decreased by as much as 70%, the general population experienced an increase in allergic reactions. This is something to consider when choosing a type of flooring, especially for homeowners more prone to allergies.
No matter what a homeowner chooses, though, there are ways to make any type of flooring beautiful. Thanks to different carpet designs and carpet textures, different styles and designs of ceramic tile, different wood floor textures, and different methods of floor installation, homeowners have a variety of options available to them when redoing their floors.
