In 2011, 11.6 percent of U.S. residences were recorded as relocated by the Census Bureau. This is the highest percentage of people to ever be recorded.
On average, Americans move 11 times during one lifetime. That means that the average American goes through the stress and exertion of moving 11 times! Luckily, there are some tricks to take a bit of the burden off of your shoulders the next time you are faced with a relocation.
Why are more Americans moving than ever before? Well, it is in part due to the amount of corporate jobs, and inherent relocations. The amount of corporate relocations that occur have increased 30 percent since 2010. If you have recently received your company relocation letter, you are far from alone.
In 2011, almost 60 percent of businesses that ended up moving locations outsourced their moving needs entirely. This means that a typical relocation package will cover most relocation expenses…but not all of them. A typical relocation package will make sure that your needs are met and you and your family are not inconvenienced too much.
Regardless of whether you receive a typical relocation package or an extraordinary one, you will want to take some precautionary measures to be as prepared as possible for moving day. Both being organized and planning ahead will make your move go as smoothly as possible.
Receiving a typical relocation package, you will be given a move by date. Give yourself plenty of time before this date to pack, make an inventory of your belongings, and a checklist for moving day.
